Backup Rotation is the process whereby you maintain a fixed number of backups by deleting an old backup each time you create a new one.
WorpDrive operates on 3 rotation schedules:
- Daily Backups
- Weekly Backups
- Monthly Backups
WorpDrive will automatically prune your backups based on your particular subscription and preferences. Taking the example that WorpDrive is configured to have:
- 4 daily backups
- 3 weekly backups
- 3 monthly backups
WorpDrive runs every day. And each day it runs, it will add that daily backup to the daily backup rotation queue. Once that collection of daily backups reaches 10, it will begin rotating them.
This means that the next time a backup runs, it will add a snapshot to the list of 10 making it 11 in total. It will then delete the oldest, bringing it back down to 10. And so on, and so forth.
This is the same for weekly and for monthly. On the 1st of each month for example, it will perform a backup and rotate the monthly queue and, in this example, ensure you always have 6 monthly backups.
